Meaningful learning opportunities
Connect learning to a client’s needs.
Meaningful work starts with the person being supported and the approved supervision plan. In ABA’s caregiver-focused model, the caregiver is the client; trainee fieldwork is not direct therapy to the caregiver’s child.
Clarify the need being addressed
With your supervisor, identify the caregiver’s actual question or need and what you need to learn to support them appropriately. Listen before deciding what activity or resource would help.
Connect the activity and expected output
Discuss suitable client-specific research, data analysis, planning, caregiver training or documentation. Ask what you should produce, how it will be reviewed, and why it is relevant to this client and your learning plan.
Confirm supervision and documentation
Ask how feedback and observation will occur, what records belong in approved systems, and which requirements apply. In ABA’s model, recorded caregiver observation and separate live supervision have different roles.
A prompt to adapt
What client need would this activity address, what should I produce, and how will we review both its usefulness and whether it fits my supervision plan?
Suggested wording, not a quotation or required script.
Take away: Keep the client purpose, learning objective and review process connected. An activity name or an hours total alone does not establish that work qualifies.
